It's a Rev reunion! Olivia Colman and Tom Hollander join Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager

Rev co-stars Olivia Colman andTom Hollander are to reunite in BBC1 andAMC's adaptation of John le Carré novel The Night Manager. The pair will join confirmed cast members Hugh Laurie (House) and Tom Hiddleston (The Hollow Crown) in the drama, with Elizabeth Bedicki (The Great Gatsby) also on board.

Why Carey Mulligan Never Holds Back

By Gaby Wood
From her meticulous preparation for Broadway’s Skylightto learning to ride for the sweepingly romantic Far from the Madding Crowd, Carey Mulligan never holds back.
Fresh from a standing ovation, Carey Mulligan sits in her Broadway dressing room, one leg tucked under the other, hair pinned back from her face, her hands almost consumed by a long pale-blue sweater. “Today was a good show,” she says with a smile. “Yesterday I didn’t feel as good about it, but today I liked.”
She is surrounded by flowers (“I got flowers from Helen Mirren, which I thought was the nicest thing ever!” she says) and jars of Marmite sent by well-wishers concerned that she might get homesick. They needn’t have worried. “I’ve always felt better in New York, doing theater,” she says. “I think because there’s no one I know in the audience—or I can believe that more comfortably than I can in London.” On the mirror behind her—written, for lack of lipstick, in Laura Mercier eyeliner—are three lines of poetry designed to embolden her: “These are our days. Walk them. Fear nothing.”
Carey Mulligan knows the secret to being a true New Yorker:
As Skylight’s Tom, Nighy plays a charismatic restaurateur, extravagant, mannered, and relentlessly funny. Kyra, meanwhile, is a dowdy and preoccupied schoolteacher, and in Mulligan’s interpretation emerges as the play’s revelation and human core. She is articulate, determined, wry, and raw; she may be the least fake thing you’ll ever see on a stage. “What’s great about Carey is that it never looks like she’s acting,” says Daldry. “She’s so truthful, and so real, and therefore so distressing. It’s unique.”
If you’d seen Mulligan in the BBC adaptation of Bleak House or in the movie Pride & Prejudice ten years ago, you’d have noticed how engaging she was, and how sweet, but you might not have foreseen the suicidal darkness of her peroxide-blonde singer in Shame, the trouble behind the eyes of her Daisy Buchanan, or the hilarious spitting fury of her Coen-brothers folk artist. Her breakthrough came with An Education (2009), in which she played a sixties schoolgirl willingly led astray by a worldly older man, and the miracle of that film was that she seemed like an ordinary girl aspiring to glamour, rather than an actress in disguise. With any given performance, she bracingly makes you wonder: What will Carey Mulligan do next?

Downton Abbey and Olivier Award winning actress  (photo by Larry Busacca/Getty Images North America) will be co-starring and playing The Queen role in director Steven Spielberg's new film adaptation, The BFG. Spielberg has teamed up with Disney and will be directing the movie, which filming and production is underway in Vancouver. The film is set for release on July 1st, 2016 in the US and on July 22nd, 2016 in the UK.

Downton Abbey's Penelope Wilton to play the Queen in BFG movie

Penelope Wilton's life of on-screen luxury will not end with Downton Abbey – the Olivier Award-winning actress is set to play the Queen in Steven Spielberg's movie version of The BFG.
Wilton, who plays Isobel Crawley in ITV's period drama, joins Wolf Hall star Mark Rylance in the adaptation of the classic children's book by Roald Dahl. Rylance will play the Big Friendly Giant himself.

Rebecca Hall, who appeared opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in BBC1's Parade's End, has also been cast in the big screen adaptation, along with Flight of the Conchords comedian Jermaine Clement.
Director Steven Spielberg has teamed up with Disney to make the film, which is expected to be released in summer 2016 – 100 years after Roald Dahl's birth.

New child actress Ruby Barnhill will play young orphan Sophie, who meets the BFG and eventually convinces the Queen of England to capture the horrid child-eating giants of Giant Country.

Wilton has already said she is not sad that this will be the last year of Downton Abbey: “I’m not upset about it,” she said at the 2015 Olivier Awards. “When something has run its course, it’s good to end on a high note.”

Disney to co-produce Steven Spielberg’s The BFG, full cast announced

With production underway in Vancouver, Walt Disney Studios has announced that it will co-produce and co-finance The BFG, Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book.

Three-time Tony Award winner Mark Rylance (The Gunmen) will play the title character, with newcomer Ruby Barnhill cast as Sophie, but today with the Disney deal comes news of the rest of the cast for the film.

Bill Hader (The Skeleton Twins) and Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) are the bigger names in the cast, as well as Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey) and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige), who will play The Queen and The Queen’s maid, Mary, in the film.

The BFG tells the story of a young London girl and the mysterious Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, The BFG  was first published in 1982 and is one of Dahl’s most beloved books.

Melissa Mathison, who worked with Spielberg on E.T., has written the script, with the film set for release on July 1st, 2016 in the US and on July 22nd, 2016 in the UK.

How Carey Mulligan Went From Ingénue to Hollywood Icon

CAREY MULLIGAN has a new tattoo. The phrase inked on the inside of her right wrist is so tiny I have to lean in to read it as she sits across from me in the airy lobby of the Crosby Street Hotel in lower Manhattan. It’s early morning, but Mulligan, 29, has already been up for hours; she’s still on London time after having just flown here for the Broadway run of David Hare’s Skylight. She apologizes for not eating anything—when her jet lag woke her at dawn, she ravenously ate breakfast. By the time we sit down, all she’s in the mood for is some Earl Grey tea, served the proper British way, with milk and one lump of sugar.

Mulligan broke a second rule, this one more recent, when she took the role: No more costume dramas, at least not for a while. This month, her new film, Thomas Vinterberg’s sweeping adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Far From the Madding Crowd, sees her galloping over the Dorset hills in sumptuous bodices from the 1870s. It’s the latest in a series of period pieces on her résumé, beginning with her first film, 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, and including her star-making performance as a ’60s schoolgirl in An Education, her portrayal of Daisy in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby and her supporting role as the put-upon ex-girlfriend of a Greenwich Village folk singer in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. Mulligan admits that she needs to focus on something more contemporary: “My agent saw Suffragette and said, ‘Darling, you’re lovely in it, but… blue jeans film next.’ ”

Even as she applied to traditional universities, Mulligan remained steadfast in her acting ambitions. Secretly, she wrote another letter, this time to Julian Fellowes, the screenwriter of Gosford Park and, later, creator of Downton Abbey, whom she had met once after he gave a talk at her boarding school. This time, her letter hit the mark. “I said, ‘Mr. Fellowes, you’re the only person in this world I’ve ever met. I’ve been rejected from drama school, and I don’t know what to do!’ ” She pauses for dramatic effect. “And then he invited me to dinner.”

As Fellowes remembers it, he and his wife, Emma, were throwing “a little get-together for aspirants and, as a caprice, invited her. Emma got a real feeling about her, that she was not quite like anyone else.” What came next was a classic tale of right place, right time—Emma heard that Joe Wright was looking for fresh faces for his new Pride & Prejudice and suggested that Mulligan audition. “I want to state that Emma didn’t get Carey the job; Carey got Carey that job,” Fellowes says. “I’m always a little wary of us trying to take credit for her unusualness; she was born unusual.”

Season 5 of ITV'shit detective dramaVera starring Brenda Blethyn as DCI Vera Stanhope (Vera S5 still via ITV) just aired its Season 5 finale last night. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Season 5. I haven't been following the series as I haven't seen it in a while nor seen Seasons 3 and 4 as it's not showing here in the US (Wish PBS was showing it on Masterpiece Mystery...). I've seen the first two seasons on Netflix a long time ago, and that's about all. The series seemed to have disappeared on Netflix. It's not listed there anymore. Loved and enjoyed watching Brenda Blethyn on those first two season of Vera though. Season 5 premiered in U.K. TVs ITV channel last Sunday April 5th. Seasons one through three are currently available on Hulu.com. All four seasons are available on Amazon.com Instant and Acorn TV.

Looks like Season 6 (or Series 6 as the Brits call it) is a go on ITV for Vera. So fans of this series will have another season to look forward to.

Miss Blethyn herself tweeted last night that her Vera series is returning for Season 6 and will start filming in June...

Whether you, as a P&P fan, prefer one or the other or both the 1995 TV mini-series (BBC and A&E) and 2005 film (Focus Features) versions of Jane Austen's over two centuries classic Pride and Prejudice, both screen adaptations are turning a decade or two with anniversary milestone of their own TV broadcast and film Cinema release in September. UK Cinema Release Date
: September 16, 2005
US Theatrical Release Date
: November 11 (limited); November 23 (wide)

Plot Synopsis:
The glorious world of Jane Austen is at last brought back to the screen in all its romance and wit in Joe Wright's Pride & Prejudice film. Faithful to the setting and period of the beloved novel and filmed entirely on location in the U.K. The classic tale of love and misunderstanding unfolds in class-conscious England near the close of the 18th century. The five Bennet sisters Elizabeth, or Lizzie (Keira Knightley), Jane (Rosamund Pike), Lydia (Jena Malone), Mary (Talulah Riley), and Kitty (Carey Mulligan) – have been raised well aware of their mother's (two-time Academy Award nominee Brenda Blethyn) fixation on finding them husbands and securing set futures. The spirited and intelligent Elizabeth, however, strives to live her life with a broader perspective, as encouraged by her doting father (two-time Golden Globe Award winner Donald Sutherland). When wealthy bachelor Mr. Bingley (Simon Woods) takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Amongst the man's sophisticated circle of London friends and the influx of young militia officers, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. Eldest daughter Jane, serene and beautiful, seems poised to win Mr. Bingley's heart. For her part, Lizzie meets with the handsome and – it would seem – snobbish Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), and the battle of the sexes is joined. Their encounters are frequent and spirited, yet far from encouraging. But a crisis involving youngest sister Lydia soon opens Lizzie's eyes to the true nature of her relationship with Mr. Darcy. The ensuing rush of feelings leaves no one unchanged, and inspires the Bennets and everyone around them to reaffirm what is most important in life. Pride and Prejudice brings romance, wit, and emotional force to the screen. Critics are calling it"Exhilarating. A joy from start to finish" (Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times).

Plot Synopsis:
Pride and Prejudice is a six-episode 1995 British television drama, adapted by Andrew Davies from Jane Austen's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice.Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth starred as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's (Benjamin Whitrow and Alison Steadman) five unmarried daughters (Jane - Susannah Harker, Elizabeth/Lizzy - Jennifer Ehle, Mary - Lucy Briers, Kitty - Polly Maberly, Lydia - Julia Sawalha) after the rich and eligible Mr. Bingley (Crispin Bonham-Carter) and his status-conscious friend, Mr. Darcy, have moved into their neighborhood. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy has difficulty adapting to local society and repeatedly clashes with the second-eldest Bennet daughter, Elizabeth. The New York Times called the adaptation "a witty mix of love stories and social conniving, cleverly wrapped in the ambitions and illusions of a provincial gentry."

Dame (rehearsal photo: Johan Persson) and her real-life daughter Finty Williams are starring together in a new stage play that will be broadcast live on More4. Dench will play a voter who arrives at the station with her daughter, played by Williams.

Rehearsal images (scroll down below) have been released of Judi Dench, Finty Williams, Mark Gatiss, Catherine Tate and the cast of The Vote at the Donmar Warehouse, which runs until May 7th. James Graham's The Vote - set in a fictional polling station - will make theatrical history when it is shown live on election night, as polls close on May 7 from 8.30pm. Consisting of 50 actors in total, it will also star Catherine Tate, Ripper Street's MyAnna Buring, and EastEnders'Timothy West.

Here's part of The Vote review and cast rehearsal photos via Radio Times...
The Vote starring Judi Dench and Mark Gatiss is fabulously acted and depressingly accurate
Politicians in the real election on 7 May will be hoping that voters clamour to the polls with the same enthusiasm shown by the several thousand people who have applied for tickets to this unique collaboration between London’s Donmar Warehouse and More4.

Real-life mother and daughter Judi Dench and Finty Williams feature as a mother and daughter whose bickering pushes the beleaguered Gatiss even closer to the edge; MyAnna Buring is a voracious journalist who senses a story; Bill Paterson is a gruff caretaker; and there’s a hilarious cameo from Paul Chahidi as an independent candidate fighting plans for a new one-way system.

Rosamund Pike(photo: Juan Naharro Gimenez/Getty Images Europe)just attended a photocall promoting her What We Did In Our Holiday 2014 film in Madrid yesterday and at the same day, she also appeared on El Hormiguero talk show (on Spanish TV) at Vertice Studio on April 30, 2015 in Madrid, Spain.

You can watch Rosamund's El Hormiguero interview in full here (Note: you must sign up or subscribe to view the player).

or Watch Rosamund in El Hormiguero show's video clips via YouTube as well as see images from the show below...

The interview and segments looked interesting and fun. It looks like Rosamund had a great time. Too bad the show is in Spanish (a must-see for RP Spanish fans) and I can barely hear Ros speaking as the Spanish interpreter would translate and speak over her English speaking voice, lol. I can understand a little Spanish though, but not a lot nor fluently. So, even though I don't understand most of what the talk show host was saying, I enjoyed watching RP's appearance on this show. I need to find YT clips of this with English subtitles...

A trailer has been released via Digital Spy for the upcoming psychological thriller Return To Sender starring Rosamund Pike (hmm, looks like she was already in a bit of Amazing Amy mode in some random scenes in this trailer...though this film was filmed and completed before her Oscar nominated film Gone Girl was...), Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Nolte, Rumer Willis, Camryn Manheim, Illeana Douglas, and Scout Taylor-Compton.

Rosamund stars as Miranda, a small town nurse who agrees to go on a blind date, but her mysterious suitor (Shiloh Fernandez) is not the person he says he is.

Return To Sender opens in UK Cinemas on May 22nd. No U.S. release date yet for this independent film.
